Looking for some help with an ignition problem on my TJ.
98 TJ 4.0, 5spd, 126,000mi...engine, trans, transfer all stock. No major work ever, just routine maintenance. last tuneup at around 110,000mi (plugs, wires, cap & rotor). Last week when leaving work I started the thing and as I put it in gear to back up it died and would not restart. I could hear the fuel pump run and I had pressure at the fuel rail so I checked to see if it was firing. I couldn't get fire at the plugs. Next thing I did was break out the multimeter and probe the coil plug (clutch in, ign on and ign cranking) ....no current. I swapped the ASD relay with the AC relay...no good. My buddy hooked up his OBDII diagnostic tester to it...(his Chrysler chip is burned out, so he did a generic OBDII test), the only thing he could come up with is 'no RPM'. He suggested replacing the crank position sensor. Spent $94 on a CPS and it didn't help a damn thing. I can't afford to keep swapping parts until it runs, and I hate the thought of hauling it off to the dealership...hoping maybe someone else has had this problem or can can give me ohm / voltage values to troubleshoot with. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks 98 TJ, 4.0, AX15, custom Dana 44's, 5.13's, ARB's, longarms. 82 CJ7 J20 60/HD44, 5.38's, detroits, 355, SM465, twin sticked Dana 300 Project monster 5...
