Chevy 4.3 in a 90 YJ
I 've got my blazer sitting at the shop under the hoist as we speak. I still have a lot of question before I start yanking the goods. Has anyone here got this set-up 90 YJ was 2.5 5 speed 4.11 gear -putting in the 4.3 Auto complete drivetrain. Looking for some short cuts like which headers worked, fuel pump, crossmember relocated that kinda stuff

I put a 400sbc with a 700R4 and NP231 out of a S15 jimmy in my 90 YJ. The hardest part was after you cut the stock motor mounts off. Was setting up the new motor welds with the proper ht and front to back measurements in the fram e before welding them in. Once you get that done the rest is a little easier. My original skid plate I modified to work with the TC. But I made a new one out of 1/4" a year later. For the fuel pump I run a external pump to feed my fuel injection. Your jeep should have the return line like mine did so that should help you out.
I'm just south of you in Medina if you wanna stop by and look |

Pull the fenders and radiator cowl....it will make the job of setting the engine a lot easier.
Make sure you have a FSM for both the donor vehicle and you YJ. Measure 100 times...weld once. Novak has a lot of good info. I used a Carter electric fuel pump....mounted it on the crossmember in front of the fuel tank. I would avoid headers....they gain you nothing and take up too much space. Plan on doing a cross over from the drivers side to the passenger side and then down the right side. If the Blazer is 4wd, then you're in pretty good shape as far as xfer case and VSS sensor. If 2wd, then you will need to tear down the tranny to install a short shaft to mate to the xfer case. And you will need to install a VSS sensor on the tranny. Bottom line....there are not any short cuts.....not unless you want to do it over a few times. With luck, FNG might chime in....he has a 4.3 in his 95....he did a nice job. Good Luck.

I replaced my 2.5L and 5 speed in my 1992 YJ with a 1997 Vortec 4.3L/4L60E combination. I used Novak motor mounts. Also, since I went with a chevy D60 front it required running the exhaust down the driverside. Accomplishing this took a set of Sanderson block hugger headers (not cheap) and a good exhaust shop. The wiring was completed using a Howell EFI harness. Feeding the engine is a E2000 fuel pump from a ford, run to a mallory EFI fuel filter and plumbed with braided -6 line. Hope this helps. send me your e-mail address and I will get you some pictures.

buck up for the red star and take advantage of the years of threads & posts on this. Search bunches, hang wild cards on smaller strings to get the search returns you need.
You haven't mentioned the flavor of 4.3 you have (TBI, vortec, etc.). Before you remove the old motor, take note of the angle the motor sits in the frame (from the side, angled front-to-rear). If it's TBI, you'll have the top of the throttle body mount on the manifold as a source of true-level. Affordable fuel injection has nice replacement harnesses that allow you to reduce/remove some of the smog shite and offer a nice hp upgrade chip (with the removals of smog shite). contribute as much as you take; it makes for good karma. Good luck
