Found a 120 amp gm alternator at the junkyard for $17.00. Looks like is should bolt up to my 258, possibly need bracket mods. Anyhow, it has a serpentine pulley. can I just pull the pulley and change to a v belt pulley off another gm alternator? Anything special about wiring this alternator up, it looks like the same wiring scheme, one thick hot wire, two small wires (one ignition I assume and the other constant +).
The pulleys are interchangeable within makes. Some parts houses have a small collection of pulleys from swaps due to a customers vehicle comes one way, ie serpentine, and the remanufactured units sometimes come with the V-style pulley. When I use to work for Parts America, we kept a box of pulleys just for this. I'll be upgrading to the GM cs130 series alternator soon myself, just waiting till I have my other toys done first.
