ARE YOU STUPID?

it is a bulletin board- you're really not talking to people any more w/o a search than with. So shut your mouth. Secondly- do you know how to search for anything? How dumb are you? You could search Yahoo for jeep and 350 and find like 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Rigs that have it, as well as many other combinations of drivetrains. This is a serious bulletin board, with very technical questions, and I'm currently in a bad mood as semester at Ga Tech is closing.

oh yah- you have to learn everything "quick"-- what u gonna do, have it ready for this weekend?

LMAO

Damn, I can see his face now when he reads that post:(....It was just a question.

Hmmm 350s where to start, great motors for a jeep and easily adaptable. If you go with a LT1 or TPI set-up, like me, you definalty want to get a new wiring harness that gets rid a few sensors that lead to problems off-road. There is a Crankshaft Position Sensor in the LT1, that get fouled up when you get in a off camber situtation and it retards or advances the timing. Its starts cutting out and all kinds of other chit. Another thing you dont ever do on a TPI(tuned port injection) system is run a true-dual exhaust, at higher revs the motor will vapor lock.

If you have anyother questions, just shoot me an email

Huh?

Vapor lock is caused by routing your exhaust too close to your fuel lines (or vice-versa) which causes the lines to heat up, vaporizing the fluid in the lines which makes the fuel stop flowing, starving your engine for fuel...

It has nothing to do with what type of exhaust you install. Just the way you route it (or route the fuel lines). If you chose to route the exhaust down the driver's side of the Jeep, just protect all the lines with shields wherever they get too close to the exhaust. Or, better yet, wrap the lines individually with some Thermo Shield 2000 heat-reflective tape. That stuff rocks.

Oh yeah--I'm almost done installing my Ramjet 350 (PFI), NV4500, and NP241-C. It's in a YJ.

Do a search Newbie. :flipoff2:

funny stuff:D

I would like to know what is unique to a TPI motor to make it more prone to vapor-lock?

Vapor Lock

I was told by a tech at perfomance shop when my cousin was wanting to run true-duals on his 94 Trans Am(LT1 350 TPI) That you should never run true-duals on any TPI equipped engine, due to vapor lock, he said something along the line that at higher rpms that there is not enough back pressure...blah blah blah.... I guess I took some in some bad info for somebody that I thought knew what he was talking about so.....:flipoff2:

TPIs do seem to run hottest of the fuel injection systems, of course that can be helped by adding a lower temp thermo stat, but fuel injections return alot of hot gas back to the tank(by the fuel return line), TBI arent as bad due to their fuel rail design, TPIs seem to be the worst they general run about 35* over ambient.

I'm running a '98 Vortec, 700R4, Dana 300, 14 bolt rear and Dana 60 front WMS axles. I used M.O.R.E bomb proof motor mounts Novak trany to tcase adapter and I am working on a 1 ton drive line.

The M.O.R.E motor mounts made locating the motor a breeze and the Novack adapter was quick and easy to install.

...How about not.

Hey Jake,
How about a little black spray paint in that engine bay? Make it look real nice.;)
Nahh... First I'd have to clean all the oil and shiat left over from the 258. Besides, once I get it done it'll all be covered with mud anyhow...

Where are you getting this info?

TBI doesn't have a fuel rail, lower temp thermo won't help with overheating, and all the TPI's I've seen run cool enough that they rarely need to turn on their elect. fans.

I am running a 350 outta '85 Suburban, SM420, 'Cruiser case, and D44's and 33's in my flatty.

Doesn't vapor lock come from fuel getting to hot, boiling to a gaseous state, which the fuel pump can't move? So at high RPM the cool gas is making it's trip from the gas tank to the injectors (or carb) faster than at any other time. How does it pick up the heat to boil?

You are correct. During high RPMs is the least likely time for Vapor lock to occur. If you'd read the whole post, you'd've seen that the guy said he got some bad information from someone who obviously didn't know what they were talking about.

And I still hate you :flipoff2: Gawd, when you first posted a pic of that thing, I touched myself  .

Jake, I gotta give you some shit though bro. WHAT are you doing putting one of THE most beautiful engines on the planet in that dirty, crusty engine compartment???? Just too anxious to prep and paint before hand? :flipoff2:

#23 ·
Oh, saw your dirty bay was already covered above.

BTW, I'm running the same Xmember style AA mount. Sweet huh. Did you use the stock vulcanized rubber mounts they gave you? If so, chain that sucker down on the driver side. I snapped mine like the first time wheel'n with the TBI. I eneded up with solid Moroso's. No fear of that now. :D

Yeah, I installed the stock ones that came with the kit. They said Federal Mogul on the box and seemed pretty high quality... What part of them snapped exactly?

Now you've got me worried.

The engine compartment is so dirty because the jeep kinda died where it sits and the nearest power washer is 8 miles away in town... (just some minor ignition issue, but I figured, "why fix it if I'm just gonna pull the damn thing out anyhow"...?).

The worst part is that I went mudding the week before I parked it and since then, the only washing it's gotten is from the garden hose... Every time you're laying underneath it and touch something, dried mud falls in your eyes. Unpleasant.

I'll wash the fawkin' thing when get around to it. :flipoff2: :D

Some things I learned running a sbc in my cj .One offset the engine with adjustable motormounts to clear the driveshaft . Unless you like a busted valve body . Two do not use hedamn headers they will the burn #5 plugwire every 500 miles /And yes I tried heat shileds and wraps and header plugs .I now have rams horns and no heat problems . Three the cheapest place to get your conversion radiator is no excuses 800 923 jeep 169.00 last summer . Same thing on the d 300 adapter too, around 400.00 or so . And last but not least if you think its going to be a weekend swap ...... forget it .

"And last but not least if you think its going to be a weekend swap ...... forget it . " Haaaaaaahahahahaha.... Jeeparts, I'll sure as hell back you up there. :D

Jake. Mine were the same. Federal Mogul. The rubber just popped right off one side mounted metal flange. I realized what was going on when I saw my hood bulging up in the center... lol. opened the thing and my brand new Moroso air cleaner was pancaked. :mad3:, also lost the + batt cable but that was about it.

Since they're in, I would say keep em in. Just put a limiting strap on the drivers side of the motor. Give it about 1/2" of travel. That should do it.
