I have ran and broken many, many parts in my day with a 91 Cherokee and 35” tires. These parts include (15+) broken Dana 30 parts, this includes ripping out the ball joints on a trail run, one busted front carrier in Moab, spider gears in Rubicon….I live in Oregon (2) Tera 4:1 Transfer case, Steering, Cracked frame.......uni-body, rear hatch, tail lights, lockers, and even managed to flop it on it’s side twice.
Once my life of being the poor college student had subsided, and my broken ass Cherokee was sold. I set out to build a dependable off road, daily driven TJ on 40’s
How hard was it to move your TRE's under the high steer arms?
It seems like earlier in your build they were on top.
The reason I ask is that I have the Parts Mike setup and I have some clearance issue with my frame. I'd like to move my Tie Rod Ends under the arms, but I don't see how it can be done since the taper is already coming from the top.
Ok lets take your passenger side arm and flip it 180 then bolt on the driver side...... and take your driver side arm flip it 180 then bolt it on the passenger side.
You now have the tre under the arm and the angle of the tre shaft pointing in the correct direction towards the center of the axle

Compared to the RE shocks I had they were too stiff so I let a bit of air out of them and it made the ride much better, not very scientific though.
They help balance the difference between coil overs in the front and regular coil spring in the rear. Worth paying the extra $, if you can swing it I would.
Build a set of tube doors paint is drying I will post pictures soon.
Spent a week in 7-04 Washington, Evans Creek, Natches, Elbe Hills, Divide Ridge. Thoes cops are pricks no tickets but they wanted to lynch me with my unsafe honda killer of a Jeep.
Lost a lot of paint on the side of my Roll cage, Their trails are up hill, down hill or sideways and very tight for my Jeep. Too wide and too long for that terrain.
Put on a quieter exhaust much nicer.
Other than that not much is new just drive it down the road to work and back.
Looks good. Is that some kind of slider/skid (spare tire maybe?) thing in the back? I see you also moved your rear shocks to the back of the axle. What did you mount the upper shock mounts to?
Nope that skid thing is nothing more thatn a bike rack for the wife's ride in Moab. See picture below:laughing:
I moved the shocks to the rear for added protection, I never did like them infront of the axle, nor do l like them where they are now. I mounted the uppers in the stock location.
I should notch my frame and outboard the shocks. I will get right on that as soon as I boat side the tub.
you say you dont want a manual, (and I can understand that) but the thought of 2900 RPM at 70 is scary for a DD. Up entill 2 weeks ago I DD my sahara 70miles round trip with 35's, 4.56's, 4.0 and nv3550. I could cruse 65mph at 2000rpm. There is nothing like averaging 19mpg out of a wranger. I drove a full tank at 57mph and got 21.5 mpg, and yes I have my speedo re-geared.
Oh if I hadent have rolled my TJ I would defenatedly model it after yours. but its a little to baddly smashed for street driving now. But I like the look nonthe less.
Quick question, I followed you build fairly closely a little while back, but I can't seem to find it now, how much body lift are you running? Do you think there is enough room to make your upper frame mounts in the rear adjustable? Thanks, Clayton.
Thanks. I'm trying to build adjustables completely above the framerail with no bodylift. Don't know if it's going to happen. Your jeep looks really good. Glad it's working well.
hey swag, i was wondering if you can do me a favor and measure your tires for me? All the swampers i have had run small and was curious as to how tall the 40" radials are? my 37" iroks measured 36" ..
im getting ready to buy some 40's and a couple folks told me they are just over 38inches. is that true? or if anyone else has some they can measure that would be great..
OK, I did not fall off the edge of a cliff and die as many of you may have thought.
Since I completed my rig, I know what you are thinking yeah right you are never done, however since I rolled my Jeep out of the shop more than 1.5 years ago I have not done a thing to it other than drive the Jeep some 17,000 miles.
I have had to replace one U-joint in the rear drive line and one axle seal, but outside of that she’s cherry.
I took the Jeep to EJS wheeled it for a week and had a blast. No broken parts brought the rig home washed and back to work I went.
So what else to do with a garage full of tools than to start building bumpers, sliders, cages, shackles for other people.
This side business is keeping me very busy to say the least not to mention my regular day job. I seldom find the time to surf Pirates for new inspiration and neat cleaver ideas. My wife and I are anticipating a new arrivial to our family in mid July. My nice quiet house will soon be a distant memory.
I will post up a few random pictures of projects I have completed.
If you seen anything on my rig or in the pictures below that stikes your fancy send me and email.
Do you still DD your Jeep? I don't see you on the highway anymore[/QUOTE]
My round trip to work and back is 52 miles, my wife's round trip is 3 miles.
Its funny how things work out, I drive the Camary most of the time and my 8 month pregant wife jumps into the Jeep:shaking:
With fuel prices the way they are driving the Jeep as a commuter is hard to justify.
