rear spring perch width?

I am converting my jeep from the old skinny style springs to the wider wrangler ones - can't decide how wide to make the perches. They are pretty darn narrow from the factory!

I think he is refering to the width of the spring...so a wrangler would be 2.5" so I would go 2.5" on the perch as well...if you weren't meaning this then I will just leave now

Brandon,

I went thru this same thing on my CJ,

After pricing every thing I realized it was cheaper to buy the spring perches, I think they were 20 bucks for 2 from more or someplace, Could have been 4 wheel parts..

no I meant the width between the perches, stock is the same front and back but that is pretty darn narrow!

That YJ spec sounds better - I will have to outboard em but I think that is the way I will go, esp since I am using YJ springs

So what you're wanting to know is how far apart one perch on the axle is from the other? On your old CJ it is 27.5". Don't know what a Wrangler rear is. You mention the YJ spec of 2.5", but that's how wide each perch is, not the width between perches. Is anybody else confused about what measurement Brandon wants?

I thought he wanted the actual width of the perch. If he want the distance between the two I suggest getting the perches, u-bolts, etc. Mock it up. Center the axel, dial in the pinion angle, tack it in place, pull it all apart and then weld the perches up fully. At least that seemed to be the easiest solution when we did my conversion.

yea, distance between the two. 27.5" sounds right for stock and someone said 40.5" is stock for a wrangler.

Sorry for the confusion. I think I could figure out the width of the perch itself

If your asking for center pin distances BigDude is right on with the YJ specs. @40.5 Rear/30.75 front. If your asking for actual perch width they are 2.5".

by the way the MORE perches are nice, but for @$10 you can buy about 3' of 2.5" box tubing and an evening to cut them. Save yourself the $90 & make em yourself. Hell I didnt even have a torch, i just used a HIGH QUALITY cut off wheel on a 4 1/2" angle grinder two hours later i had 4 perches.

Goodluck!

Exclamation

Don't go with the YJ rear width, you won't like it. Nice and stable, but sucks for flex. I'd recommend around 32"-34". My YJ front is 31.5" now and flexes great (uses all of a 9012 anyway), but the rear is at the stock YJ width and getting it to flex has been a challenge. Using Waggy front springs now and that has helped quite a bit. The rear width is my one and only regret of the YJ frame swap. Had I known how much that width would affect the rear flex I'd have inboarded the rear springs. Too much of a pain to do it now On the bright side I don't need a sway bar anymore
