ha, I found your thread with no replies in a search. thanks for the reply.
here are the block huggers.
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
they point straight down and that was a concern for me because of low ride height concerns and top link clearance. I was hoping for a swept back style. that brings us to a factory style manifold like an F-body factory one.
1. Just how far down do the block huggers go.
2. when you say they clear the motor mounts, you mean they go immediately behind them and dump?
Of the stock F-body style, I am still wanting headers.
3. What am I looking at for price on the camaro headers. summit was talking like 3 bills for a painted header.
4. any specific part numbers or application I should be asking for (ex. '02 camaro auto) or anything more concisce?
thanks for the replies
Kelly

here is what I am finding for camaro headers in a black. $100 more than the block huggers. I need to see if the block huggers are a viable choice first. I am not against cutting the collectors off and turning them back a little on the block huggers if they collect high enough
Mikkofin, can you remember how low they collect, or do you have pics of it?

maybe be a little more specific? how about which forum, "projects" or "fabrication". which project. I only found 1 5.3 swap, it was in a yj, it ended in september and never had exhaust or finished pics. if you have more info on these headers, reply back.

I put a 5.3 in a cj, four linked with rockwells. We used a drivers side truck manifold on the pass side, and a drivers side f-body man. on the drivers side. This made the pass side point forward, ran a crossover around the front of the motor to the drivers side.

Also did an ls1 in a buggy with the above mentioned block hugger headers. IMO they were peices of shit. They do not fit the block very tight like the gen 1 block huggers do. Similar set up, drivers side runs under oilpan into pass side. VERY tight. My exhaust guy was cussing both times, but he says he likes a challange.

Get the f-body manifolds if you want duals, or you may be able to use ones off a vette. There is an ls1 forum thats pretty big, or try e-bay.

Vortec 5.3/transmission questions

I am putting a 2003 Vortech 5.3 liter engine into my old Landrover. Looking at posts above I chose to post my question here as you guys seem to be into it. I want to use a TH400 transmission, basically because I found an adapter kit that allows me to use the Landrover TC. My question to the forum is what additional parts will I need to order between the engine and the transmission ? Someone mentioned different flexplate ? And spacers ? What torque converter to use ? Recommended stallspeed ? I am not familiar with american engines or automatic transmissions but after having experienced an american V8 in the desert and sandunes (I live in Egypt and do regular and long trips in the Sahara) I knew I wanted a big V8. So I am ordering parts now, filling up a container in NC, which will be shipped to Egypt in July. I need to get ALL the parts without having a chance to see any of it until I open those container doors so I really need some help !

The Advance Adapters LS1 headers should work. They have the guaranteed fit program, so there is little risk.

Their headers are uncoated and have a straight 2.5" collector. On mine, I added the 02 bungs and 3-bolt flanges before sending them off to get coated.

I'll add pix later.

Header as it comes from AA

Right Side - Coated w/O2 bung and flange

Left Side - You can see relationship of steering and motor mount w/header.

Under Side - Good sense of clearance w/stock (truck - rear sump) oil pan
