Let's do an official cage building inspiration thread. It's one of those items that we all need no matter what our diffs/tires/engine combo may be.
If you have a bad ass cage post up pics. Function and looks both are worth noting. First it's gotta be functional and second it won't hurt anyone's feelings if it looks sweet. :smokin:
anyone have an idea how to do the fender bar like on this on, in a such a way as to allow the tub to still come off? I figured if I bolted it I would loose most of the strength
If the white and blue one ramping in this post...on the 46" claws is the same Jeep (looks like it but not sure) That pic has talked me out of Claws for life. Not only do they not work as well as Boggers or TSL's up here.... they don't look nearly as cool. :barf:
It can be, that's why I added some bends above my head. I wanted diagonal overhead for strength. To hell with making a cage pretty for pretty's sake. I want every chance at surviving a hard roll I can get, and even if I don't go through that, I don't want all that time and money going to waste on a little sissy flop because I tried to get fancy with my tubework. I'm proud to have built what I feel was a pretty safe, well built and designed cage, that still looked good.
Here are some pics of my new cage. My buddy over at http://www.mastermindfab.com/ did the cage for me... I agree with door bars I used it first time out w the new cage and saved my buddy's leg bigtime
So whats the consensus on the poison spider style A pillar mounts vs through the dash? Is the firewall/door jamb strong enough to be a mounting point? Gotta say it makes me nervous.
I went with a PP through the dash. If/when I roll it will likely be during one of my high speed dezert runs so I wanted as much strength as possible while retaining the back seat for cruising around. PP also put in seat mounts and a harness bar for the belts.
Ian, I love the cage man, I am thinking of building something similar. Just curious, if you know off the top of your head, what is the angel degree for the two rear bends that angel the cage down. I was thinking 135, but wasn't sure.
here's mine... can't see them in this, but I have "hip bars" between the A and B pillar, which is tied into my seat mounts. Also a shoulder spreader behind the seats for the belt attachments....
Here is a pic of my cage. I built it with the family in mind so there isn't much bracing on the inside. I will add some structure when my Jeep becomes what it is headed for.
he probably meant that he wants to keep it livable instead of a jungle jim that you have to climb through to find a seat. but you already knew that...right? just kidding with you. :flipoff2:
