Jeep CJ Stainless Steel exhaust, want some?
i just spoke with a guy that is local to me about making some Stainless Steel (S/S) bolt on exhaust for AMC Jeep Cj's with AMC v-8's. the exhaust would be similar to this design:
http://www.4x4wire.com/tech/josh4x4/exhaust/ i have spoken with the guys at Discount Muffler and they are too busy to produce, market, and sell a system. i want to work with my guy to develop a system that would work on a CJ-5, 7, or 8. it would come with a front y-pipe, straight center piece, and the piece that goes over the rear axle. the y-pipe tubes would be 2.25", 14gauge, 304 S/S. after the y-pipe, it would go to 2.5", 14ga, 304 S/S all the way out the back. there would be no provisions for a Catalytic conv or muffler. you would have to cut out a section of pipe and weld or clamp them in. to buy the factory replacement parts individually from a local auto-parts store would put you over $200. this only gives you the crappy front y-pipe and small steel tubing. i am going to try to get the price between $250 and $300. i also have a supplier for Random Tech catalytic converters and Borla Mufflers. Who would be seriously interested in buying a kit from this guy? i am a Mechanical engineer and a perfectionist (when it comes to my jeep). i will not let this guy sell you crap. you can get that at the local auto-parts... please post here thanks! matt

I like the idea, but I'm gonna have to pass.
My CJ has a passenger side high pinion diff, exact opposite setup of stock CJ. That said, I think it's a nice layout that can be used as a starting point for any custom exhaust job. |

Where were you last week?
Simple minds think alike I have never seen that write up before and I had that exect exhaust done last friday. Cost me 250 bucks and it is not stainless so your idea for a price is good. What size pipe are you going to use? Mine is 2in all the way. I belive it would have been better if the pipe was larger after the y pipe.

TPIjeep, this system would work in ANY Cj with an AMC V-8 and exhaust manifolds. it would not make a difference what rear axle you are running. if i wanted to approach stockers with this, i would not have come here. as you should know...sometimes you have to make stuff work....like putting a "Small block chevy, block hugger headers, NV4500 ,Atlas and 14 bolt rear with a traction bar with 12 inches of lift?" in a CJ. that shit don't bolt in. this will almost bolt in, may need mods to work with your junk.
hopefully, i'll have something on the scrambler this weekend and will be able to take some pics.
