Turbo Jeep guys....

I just installed a T3/t4 on my 1995 2.5L YJ. I am not sure if I need to pull timing out or if I will be ok just running 93-94 octane pump gas with about 7 psi.
What do you guys do for a timing retard? Everything I read says that ignition timing is not adjustable, but there has got to be a way to do it. I guess I could use an MSD box with a BTM, but MSD's don't like to get wet.

Thanks!

You need to pull timing under boost, and you need to get more fuel.

The proper way to do it would be to ditch all the factory computer stuff and run something like megasquirt, but I'm not up to speed on how or if people are doing it with the 2.5L sensors, or if it's even doable. You could probably get away with running a rising rate or adjustable fuel pressure regulator and some bigger injectors, but it won't be totally fine tune-able.

The MSD box coupled with the MSD boost timing master is a good way to go.

Really, if you want the motor to last and perform the best, you should have it professionally tuned. If you just want to make sure it's not going to grenade the first few trips out, get some more fuel in and get some timing out when in boost.

For reference, I ran a turbocharged D16Z6 in a Honda Civic for autocrossing for a few years. It was a fun little car. I ran an MSD w/BTM, and a Apex'i VAFC fuel controller with 450cc injectors from a mitsubishi eclipse. It ran ok, but it was no aftermarket fuel management a'la Hondata or AEM.

I am using a 12 to 1 FMU which should be on par for my 19lb Ford injectors, along with a 255lph pump. I thought maybe I could elongate the holes for the crank sensor to pull out a couple degrees. That would probably change injector timing as well though right?
I don't know anyone in my area (Detroit 'burbs) that tunes Jeep stuff. I don't need it to be tuned for absolute power, but just to keep it alive with a decently rich A/F ratio under boost.

Hey Rob,

You can adjust the timing a little bit by slotting the CPS like what Turbo City did.

I came up with nothing using the search. Most people say "Just run a stand alone like Megasquirt". This is a low budget project just to see if I could do it.

Boost does not shock anything. It comes on nice and smooth, just off idle. Lag does not seem to be an issue for me.

I would also install an Air/Fuel ratio gauge. That way you can keep an eye on things, especially under boost. You don't want that little sucker foing way lean on you. It willl also hep you tune it easier.

Go to google.
Go to advanced search.
Type your keyword. (turbocharge, turbocharger, turbocharged, turbocharging)
Narrow it to the site you think will help the most.

Then google search for terms like 'junkyard turbo' etc.
