Stu-offroad has a nice write up on AW-4 install in a TJ......
You'll need the TCU plugs on the tranny and I think the XJ TCU. All the wiring will be cut and tapped into the TJ harness. I wanna do the same thing to my TJ but with a blown 4.0L...I'm going 5.3L/4L60E

I think BrettM's box takes away the use of the XJ TCU. Instead of the TCU sending the signals to shift, you use the AW4 shifter to control the shifts....Manually shifting an automatic.

Shifter option
Hello,
I make a couple shift options for the AW transmissions. Check out the website. Thanks.
