Another YJ on Rocks...Build thread
Well I figured since I have another build on my hands, I might as well start a thread on it... I have a '94 YJ that had a 2.5l four banger and a set of D44 full width steering axles under it (rear steer), and have been wheeling the crap out of it with good success. That is until I did a 4.0l swap in it.....
The 44's held strong with the 2.5l, but even with Superior shafts and CTM joints the rear one blew up first trip out with the 4.0l. So anyway its time for an upgrade...I have 2 steering Rocks, and a set of 46" michelins (not my first choice of tire, but trying to keep it on somewhat of a budget). It will be 4-linked front and rear with coil overs. The upper links will be 1.75" with Ballistic Fabs new Forged 2.63 joints. The lower links will be 2" with Ballistic 3.0 joints. I will have pinion brakes on the front and rear, with the rear welded and a Detroit in the front. Steering will come from double ended rams in the front and back. Now on to some pics. This is what I started with... ![]() YANK! Axles gone. ![]() Here is my front Rockwell, detroit installed and hubs flipped... ![]() And here is the look I am going for... ![]() ![]() Still waiting on some of my parts, but should be starting the actual build in a week or so.

Great rig. Do you have any more pics of the older set up, looks sick.
X2 on scrapping the Michelins though (whenever you get a chance)

Here is a couple of more pictures of the old setup. I will be getting new tires, probably 46" comp. Claws, but for now the Michelins will have to do. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You do know that your new upgrade is part of the reason for another upgrade! You get stronger axles and then other people have to get stronger axles. Then during an axle swap somebody(?) gets over stimulated with a plasma cutter. The next thing I know there is another vehicle sitting on a lift, waiting in line, to be put back together.

Still waiting on parts to start the build, and they probably wont get here by this weekend either.
I figured I would post up some more parts pictures in the meantime...This is what is holding up progress... (Ballistics new 2.63 Forged Joints) ![]() Here are my Pinion Brakes and Blue Torch link brackets... ![]() Here is the rear axle, with the hubs flipped, and the center chunk rotated 180... ![]() And here is the steering that will be on that axle...

Well, I got a little more done today. I mounted the ram on the rear axle and also got the pinion brake installed... The brake will be on the back and the ram will be towards the front. I should have my link parts by next weekend, then I can really get started on the build...
