I dunno if the adapter benefits the toy people as much as it would the jeep but it is pretty cool and I finally got it installed. Since trucks don't need to so short a dual case is no problen with this setup but on a jeep the single works well. Cool thing is you can get the 4.7 gears, twin stick etc etc..
brandon, nice write up on the install. does marlin have an adapt. for the 465 too, i thought so but can't find any pics. i've got a yota rear d-line you can have,pm me and i'll give you directions if you want.
When I had my Yota, I always loved the innovation and quality that was coming from some of the aftermarket Yota builders like Marlin and All-Pro. I am glad to see these companies turning some of their focus on Jeeps. Many of the Jeep companies are just throwing around the same crap that has been around forever.
I am sure Marlin did not intend for his adapter to be used in Jeeps, but I have looked into swapping a Yota T-case into my YJ at one point. I am sure I am not the only one.
The dual case set up is not that long, and the 420 is much shorter than an AX15, AX5, PushandGo, etc... Combine with waggy springs to move the axle back some, it might fit.
Or go the All Pro Off Road way and move the engine forward.
I've been planning the same thing with my Jeepster. I'm tired of my giant (but bulletproof) NP205 hitting everything on the trail. The way it's set up now I'd either have to get a lot bigger tires or re-engineer the setup or go with something else, so I'm going with something else (the yota t-case) and bigger tires. I like the fact that there are so many gearing options available for the Toyota t-case, plus I have the length in the driveline to do it (101" WB). Thanks for giving me yet another option Brandon!
Bramdon, i know you do not have drivelines yet, but does it look like it will clear the reverse hump on the 420? How much lift is needed to install this adapter?
Last year I picked up the Marlin adapter for the mini truck range box to the SM465, but instead of running dual toyota transfer cases, I run the Dana 300 as my second case using the OTT adapter. This setup is only a few inches longer than my single case setup due to the short 465 adapter (1.5"), and it's no more expensive than the dual Toyota boxes.
