What vehicle are you putting an np231 in? A jeep I'm presuming because of the tranny, you realize that there are many other better TCases you can swap in, right?
If yours blew up and you need a quick fix I guess it might be worth it...but still.
And yes I don't think you have to do anything other than change the input shaft.

ya I know I could go with a atlas or a flipped 300, but will probably stick with a chain drive for now and add a tera-low. I know--pay me now or pay me later-
Swap the input gear, it's easy, and will give you a good look at the internal condiditon of the case. Check the year before ordering the right input gear or getting one, some different combinations out there, '95 4cyl's used a different planetary set, not better or worse, just different, gotta love that Big Three automaker logic.
