Ok, ive got a 78 cj7, fixin to regear and lock, running 36" tsl's.. dana 44 front and rear, thinkin of swapping out the 44 rear for a 60..
My question is this.. what would be the best 60 to look for, year and make.... ie, less work is better... someting to match the rear 44 just stronger.. i run a soa, jus wanna reargear lock and slap it in there...

I will be putting 5.13's and a detroit in it..

Any and all help is appreciated...

well unless u find a semi-floatin d60 w/ the 5x5.5 lug pattern or convert the d44 front to 8 lug, you'll have to buy new rims, or you could get a full float d60 and have the hubs and drums redone for the 5 lug pattern, i think i'd try to find a scout d44 rear and try it for a while

Most of the 60's era 60;s are thin walled 2.75" tubed 60-2's and are not that beefy. What you will probably end up doing to ge the dest of both worlds assuming you want to keep it 5X5.5 is cut off the full floater ends and weld on 9" ends and make it a semi float rear. Moser and dutchman sell the ends and axles and then you can make it any width you want and be 35 spline with 5X5.5 wheels.
