T90 or Upgrade???

My Dad has just purchased a bone stock 1956 CJ-5. The engine is dead so the first thing on the list to do is a motor swap. He already has a Chevy 4.3 ready to be thrown in, but my question lies within the trans. Do you think the stock T90 will handle the abuse of a healthy engine, 35 or 37 inch tires, and playing in the rocks?? We would like to tackle this issue now so if need be we can swap the whole drivetrain at once...

ive seen T-90's run with water in them to get off the trail, then drained and refilled with oil and theve been fine. for what they are they can handle some abuse, but its the lack of a decent first gear that you will miss.

me i would run a 420 or a 465, AA has a adapter on sale as we speak for a 420 http://advanceadapters.com/product/5251/sy-50-2401.html thats a steal of a price for a 420/dana 18 or 20.
agin a T-90 should handle the 4.3 but why push it, for under 500 dollars with shipping you can get the real deal. yes you will need to find a 420 but there still out there.
