When I put it in 4 it rattles. Not on the throttle but when I coast it. My mechanic put new bearing in it an it still does it. HELP

U shure it is in the trans? Does it make noise in neutral? Does the noise go away when you are in 4th gear?

my t18 or dana 20 does it when im coasting or get the speed just right going down the road. like i said im not really sure weather its the transmission or transfer case but i just figured they were all like that.

You put it in 4.....You mean you put in 4th and coast it...not in 4wd and coast it?

Not mine...But fourth only gets used in Low range at high speed.

It does it in 4th gear 4 wheel drive hi and 2 wheel drive. I don't know if it would do it in 4 low. If I throttle it, it would NOT rattle but when I coast it rattle big time.

Make sure the nut holding the t-case input gear to you tranny's output shaft hasn't come loose, that can cause the sounds you are describing.

I put a new transfer case in it. Same thing. My mechanic is looking at the shift rail.

My NP435 & Dana 20 combo mated with an Advanced Adapters kit does this too. Was kind of annoying but I got used to it.

Chevy engine,T-18a to dana 20. Maybe I should call AA? It is LOUD. My friend's always lean to the right thinking it will blow up!
