all 4.0 swap guys no spark???

I have swaped my 2.5 1990 wrangler to a 4.0 1990 cherokee. Have everything in. Went to tryn start it for the first time. I have no spark. Checked the wires for power and ground both are good. Its getting really good fuel pressure.
Ive done my home work on this also. The motor is new. Had it machined and built a 4.7 stroker motor. Runing the stock AW4. The ditrib is new along with wires. Im going to go and buy another distrib to day and see if thats the problem.
It would turn over great just wouldnt start. So on the last time as i let out on the ignition to stop cranking it turned over, for maybe a sec. Tried again nothing did this several times and occasionaly it would hit a lil lick as I was letting off the ignition. So it has to get a lil spark occasionaly. Just when ive checked it nothing. Any ideas or help would be great. Thanks Jeff

check for any cracks in the coil housing.

they break up often and a intermitent spark is a good sign.

also check for a pile of shmoots stuck on the cps you may have picked up some metal filings on the install.

A soon as I get home Ill check the crank sensor. If it is that why would it let it try and fire up when I let off the ignition switch some times?

there is some important info you left out.(well its there just not verry clear)

you have no power to the coil on crank it could be your ign switch.

try putting the key in the ign position and jumping the starter solenoid i bet it fires right up.

are you running a older fender mounted solenoid?
if so just switch the 2 small wires with the 90deg boots on them i think there white and green?

My money is on this problem. I had the same issue on my wife's TJ. In my case the wire to the sensor was cut, and basically it would crank, but no go. I fixed the wires to the senor and problem solved.

I was just thinking are you talking about starter solenoid. If so no. If your talking about the thing thats mounted on the fire wall that all the hot wires go to. Then yes.

sorry i have my head up my butt today.

i had the same problem on my cj it would only have power to the coil in the ign position and not the crank position.

it also had some wires crossed on the solenoid but it was a totally different problem.

sorry for the confusion.

now back on topic.

try the ign on and jump the trigger on the solenoid and crank the engine over.

i have had the problem of no power to the coil on crank on multiple occasions .

it usually ends up being the power distribution relay on the firewall under the battery tray

make sure to have proper spacing on the cps from the flywheel. about the thickness of a matchbook cover. i installed one new and the paper spacer fell off and i ended up installing it like this not knowing it would be too close.
Fukked the CPS while cranking......
lesson learned the hard way!
I managed to get a new one from my buddy at NAPA cuz it didnt have the paper spacer installed.
And i didnt know about it till i researched the interweb..............

Ok guys got it started, I put the key in on posistion and jumped starter over and it worked.

I also verified that there is no 12v to coil\control module when key is all the way forward (starting).

Now how do i correct this problem, starter has solenoid on it and starter relay on firewall if that helps.
