I've been watching this thread since it's been resurrected... I'm really impressed with your machine work. The building of the doubler box and shaft was great!!
Another thing I'm even more impressed with was... Your wife! You are a very lucky man to have a wife to sit out there with you. She has her seat and her heat. I saw previous pictures with her wine glass as well. It's just terrific to see that she is part of this build. Not just "honey, I'm going to the garage and I'll be back in a few hours", it's her coming out there with you! I guess I'm most impressed with that, but thoroughly enjoying your build. |

^ thanks.
As for the wife, Yup I'm lucky. Almost lost her to cancer a couple of years ago and I appreciate her everyday. Now back to the build. Lol This is what I plan on using for the links between the shifter and the t-cases. ![]() I am making my own triple stick. Here is the shaft. It allows for independent shifters to operate on their own. If you want more detail I can share more pics of it. ![]() It all starts to go in tonight. I'll post up as I complete it and determine how to place the shifter leavers. |

so been hard at it
and have slowly started getting this together. I believe I have found a home for the shift linkages and have finalized the removeable cradle for the seating. here are some pics for those of you whom are watching. this is how I decided to make the shifter pivot points. ![]() and where it is placed into the jeep ![]() the top halves of the flat bar will be trimmed off and I will be putting a leaver on the bushing. ![]() as for the seating.... since I dont have a cage as of yet I decided to tie it to the boat sides. Then added some fastenning in the center for some added support. In total 6 mounting points Front cross bar ![]() rear bar mounting ![]() and side to side. ![]() still lots to do.... but still progress is being made. |

Lots to update. And will do that but more importantly.
It runs. Started it today first time since transplant. Ran smooth. I'm very excited. Still lots of stuff to do... But knowing that it runs is huge encouragement to get it finished. Link to video |

update...
lots has happened since my last update.
Linkage has been sorted out. the D300 will run direct linkage to the TC and the "Box for Rocks" will have a cable. the floor is completed. there is 2 access panels that have yet to be cut and mounted. ![]() the seating is figured out as well.... ![]() the engine wiring is all loomed up and the ECM is installed inside the tub. ![]() ![]() ![]() the engine has also been reinstalled and wiring is all hooked up. Still to do.... - install everything again... tcase etc. - seal-up t case and doubler box with RTV - linkages hook-up and make leavers for them - rear tcase cross member - install rad and transmission cooler - skid plate - re-install seating Last edited by Jak Flash; 05-28-2012 at 04:35 PM. |

^ thanks for the move....
I hope that my thread wont be a disappointment to the hardcore side of PBB. I know its not on huge tires etc.... but I make 90% of my own parts and only buy the things that I can't make. so please comment on whatever or however you wish. back to the build.... so with the rear Driveshaft being an issue the only real solution is to do the stretch now. I have decided to go with the XJ rear leaf stretch and go for the full 6" that I can get from them. I then looked at the tank and thought that I could do the gas tank modification that I have read out in hopes to save me some cash. However with the Truss on the 8.8.... that just wasnt going to work. so.... Fuel cell it is. ![]() It will hold approx 15 Gallons and is 10"x12"x30". drained the old tank last night and plan on dropping it out tonight, then the axle and anti wrap bar. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
![]() So started to put get ready to put this shit together, removed the tank and cut a hole in the floor for the fuel cell. ![]() Then. Began to strip out the old suspension and found this ignorant shit. FFS. . I must have cleaned 5 lbs of southern Ontario clay outta there. So decided to cut it out... ![]() ![]() New frame piece to inset into the old one. ![]() And done. ![]() Also had a small hole that needed repair on the other side under the bump stop. ![]() Now that this shit is fixed I can move on with the build. So question about the fuel cell. I plan on putting the fill on the drivers side top of it. Any concerns that I should have with that? What about the location of the pump? I plan on putting it in the center.. |

Busy day. After the frame repairs it was time to move forward with the stretch.
New shackle mounts. ![]() ![]() First fitting. ![]() Still need to set pinion angle, move exhaust and shock mounting then install the anti wrap bar. I'm gonna have about 104" WB. Last edited by Jak Flash; 06-03-2012 at 07:33 PM. Reason: Pic links repairing |

So worked more at it today. Started to build the anti wrap bar for the spring over axle. Decided on using a slip and twist method, everything I read about it says that it seams to work well. Gonna use 1 3/4" 0.120 wall on the outside and 1 1/2" 0.25 on the inside for the slip and twist.
This is the bracket that will be holding it ridged. ![]() Another view. ![]() And installed.
