ATLAS Questions
So I just ordered my Atlas transfer case and need help deciding which gear ratio to go with. They said you get 2 weeks to change your mind. I was originally going with the 5.0 because of the 32 spline upgrade. At the time I was only concerned with crawling. I have since started going faster like everyone else and want to get some opinions from you guys that are running them. My setup is an XJ full width on 42's with 5:38's bone stock 4.0 with and AW4. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I think you are going to hate the 5.0 if you plan to drive from obstacle to obsacle in 4wd low. I dont think your 4.0 will put the 42s quickly in high range.
I would look at the 3.8 or 4.3. The 3.8 gets my vote. |

I am going to be running a 3.8 in my Cherokee with 40's and 5.13. It crawls good with the 2.72 in the stock case, and I didn't want to go too high, but still be able to blast from trail to trail. That was my decision.

I'd say 3.8 too.
Too big of a jump and you'll hate it. If you have some kind of doubler like a Klune with the 2.72, you can choose between that and the 5:1 to have the variety you need (not to mention a really low crawl). I'm running a 4.3 in my Atlas but with the granny low in the SM465 transmission, it's like having a 2:1 low range that's easy to shift in and out of. Last edited by derf; 11-23-2010 at 08:21 PM. |

I have TJ 3 speed auto, 40" and 4:88 with 5:1. If I were to do it over again 3.8-1. My TJ is less than stellar in the snow, mud, sand, works well in rocks but if I need wheel speed I'm screwed.
Tell you way you order a 3.8 and I will trade you my 5:1 Deal
