That would be cool but what frequencies does it have and will my Techplus license cover them.

I'm pretty sure it'll work on 6m (50-54 MHz) using FM, which your Tech Plus (same as I have... KC6TAY) allows operation on. This is an old Viet Nam era radio, hard to say if it's worth the effort. Especially since replacement batteries for it could be hard to find.

Here's a page with a little info http://www.milspec.ca/radspec/radspec.html though there are a lot more sites with PRC-77 information on the web.

IIRC, PRC-77's were crystal controlled, which means they can be "rechanneled" to 6M Ham.

Using them WITHOUT rechanneling "just in your home to communicate with another radio enthusiast" is a FELONY (you are now broadcasting on Gov't freq's - and the FCC has ZERO sense of humor)

(I know - I used to work for the FCC, and was required to leave my sense of humor locked in the glovebox during business hours)

Unless you can get several others to buy them and re-crystal - 6 meters is pretty dead.

With all that said - $175 isn't a bad price.

Yeah, them 'prick seven sevens' are kinda out-dated...I carried one (and a boatload of batteries) many clicks in my 'other' life . At least if ya got the radio, ya got a better chance of knowing whats going on!
