'74 CJ5 Back To Basics Build
Our customer wants a functional CJ5 basic build. Nothing to spectacular, moderate wheeling rig, and family fun Jeep.
The early CJ5 has a 4.2ltr, Dana 44 Rear, and plenty of work to be done. This is what we are starting with. ![]() ![]() What we want to do first is get it mechanically sound, and all parts functional. So we start with NEW SHOES, and HARDWARE all the way around. Yes front and rear drums. ![]() We will keep what parts we can that are in good shape, and replace what needs to be replaced. Drums were in spec and just needed to be cleaned. ![]() ![]()

We will also be adding New seats, Seat Brackets, Back-Seat, New Gas tank, New Windshield Frame, Glass, Drivers Side floor pan, Body work. etc.
We want this to be a safe functional Jeep for the customer. The Pretty stuff will be added later. Like Paint, Hardware stuff like that. For now we are focusing on all the mechanical. All this can be applied to the new rig anybody is building, whether a restore or an Ultra 4 Build. You can either drive your rig, or it can look pretty sitting in your driveway. Because you went straight to all the high speed low drag parts, and neglected all the essential stuff.

why not front disc conversion?
that and power steering are the two most important off road upgrades for these in my opinion.
