I am a fan of the 8.8 swap but I also thinkmthat if you aren't going bigger than a 35 the 8.25 is plenty. Truss it up and beat the snot out of it. I've ran welded 8.25's (27 and 29 spline) and not had issues. I'm typically pretty hard on my Jeeps and have done a lot of different axle/suspension swaps. On an XJ I'll keep the D30/8.25 combo all the way up to 35's. Any bigger of a tire and its getting 1tons. However I think at that point you're better off with a full frame, hence why I have a YJ now.

I cant justify building another axle until/if I ever go big.

I've run 36" iroks on a HP30 with 4.88s for a few years without ANY issues. Tore up a few stock u-joints, and it was more an issue of wallowing out the ears on the shafts, and then spitting the cap. no breaks. (im a lightfoot, but like to follow the big-boys and if I must pull cable or take the bypass).

bought a set of yukon inners, and found a deal on 10-factory inners. no issues or problems with them. the HP30 has been damn solid for me.

and my 8.8 as dead ass solid. with stock shafts.

next axle upgrade for me skips the 44 and goes to the 60 front and 60 or 14b rear.
