Jeep starter question
I am installing the Advance Adapters TH400 to Jeep 4.0 adapter. According to the directions, their are two starter configurations. One, a short throw (which I currently have) and a the second a longer throw starter. I have been unable to track down the longer of the two. I have been to Napa and O'reilly's and neither can narrow it down. Advance Adapters has been unable to provide me with a year, make or part number for the long throw starter. Any one have any info that could help me out?
Thank you |

There are two different starters, the early Ford type, and the later gear reduction Mitsubishi type. The split year was 86/87. They bolt up the same, the difference is in the depth of the starter drive.
I'm pretty sure that the one you need to use is the Ford type, if the flex plate that the adapter kit came with does not have the tone ring for the crank position sensor. The Ford type uses the external solenoid on the fender so some re-wiring would need to be done if you currently have the Mitsubishi type starter. |
