Driveshaft Play?

Hey guys I have a troubleshooting question for y'all.

Im having a rattling sound coming from the jeep when I get from 10mph up. The sound is similar to a chain being turned on gears, like higher pitch and kind of hollow sounding. The sound is more rapid the faster I get going. I can't quite locate it from in the driver's seat, but from my best guess I'd say it's either directly in the center or closer to the passenger side.
When the engine is idling the sound isn't there so I don't think its a drivetrain issue. I checked under the jeep and everything is tight and where it belongs, but I did notice that my front driveshaft can turn approximately an inch to the left and right by hand in 2wd and 4wd. It turns freely from both the axle and the transfer case. My rear driveshaft won't budge by hand so Im thinking that the front aint right.

So my two questions are:
Is there supposed to be any play in the front driveshaft, and are there any other suggestions as to what it may be?

2004 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon by the way. stock 4.10 diffs and stock nv241

Could be slack in the transfer case chain, causing it to drag on the bottom of the case.

Try putting it in 4wd and rotating the front driveshaft, any play is from slack in the chain. They are only about 100 bucks and fairly easy to swap.

That would make sense. Do you know if that is a component that commonly wears out?

Yes it is I have seen one in a np231 that was never put in 4wd and put a hole in the case. The lady kept driven in tell it was throwing oil.. I got the jeep for a song cuz she didnt want to pay to fix it.

Are there any seals or anything that you would recommend that I replace while I have it out?
