8.8 Pinion Guard

All right I have searched high and low and just can't come up with anything on 8.8 pinion guards. Has anyone here built one. I have been told welding on cast just won't hold up, but there has to be an answer. I have an 8.8 in the rear of my Jeep and yes in hind sight I probably should have just went ahead and done a 9", but I did the 8.8 swap and until I completely grenade it. I am stuck with it. And I really cannot complain to much I have never broken anything in it but a cross shaft. But I tend to get hung on rocks on the lower lip of it.

If you are getting hung up on the lip then that has nothing to do with a pinion guard. You can easly weld a piece of steel as a ramp or grind the lip down. Anyone who says you can't weld to a cast steel diff housing has never tried it.

Yeah I was kinda trying to kill 2 birds with one stone. What would you use? I have so 1/4" plate I could cut up and make a ramp/ skid. I am kind of invisioning 3 fins on the bottom of the diff then weld the plate onto them kinda like a boat bottom.

Piece of plate would be more than enough, no reason to get fancy with it. If you search a bit there are a couple threads with pictures.

i did a few pieces of round rod, big at lip and smaller toward pinion, then welded , hit it alot and hard, no issues, it just lets the rocks slide better
