![]() While I have had/used 4x4's for over 20 years , and every vehicle I own is a 4x4, I have never had a trail rig , so here goes. Looking at an 89 xj for off road only , it's started to be setup for offroad , here's what I know's been done . Be gentle it's my first time ![]() $1700.00 RC shocks RC 6" coil lift on front Changed rear springs (Ford I think) Tube bumpers Rock sliders welded diffs auto tranny interior stripped , dash & seats stock 2.5" wheel spacers WHY ? ? ? TC changed to a 321 ? from 421 ? fuel cell , 15gal fender wells cut 33-12.5-15's here's a bad pic ,is it worth it? This will mainly be wife's rig to get her and grandkids to where we ride trails bikes. Of COURSE I'll thrash it too

Id agree a bit to pricy, for me Id prefer to buy something cheaper that hadnt been molested just so I knew I wasn't buying something that someone else had screwed up. Like a welded 35 & 2.5" wheel spacers......
and I think you mean 231 tc?

I'm not sayin anybodies wrong , but here's my thinkin.
Around here an $800 stocker will have 200k+ miles and no floor pan. 6" lift and shocks about $600 , tires $600+ fuel cell$?? time stripping interior , cutting building fenderwells , bumpers , rock sliders , welding diffs , removing fuel tank. etc that's alot of time , IF this one is done close to right I'm way ahead. Right ? ? Am I WAY off ? |

Play the disinterested buyer and pick it up for 1k-1200. Sounds like its worth that to you.
Then go through it with a fine tooth comb (fluids, nuts, bolts) because you KNOW he didn't care. I built a cherofree on 33s once- no lift, cut, welded, stripped. Possibly the funnest rig I've ever had. And at no time did i care about it at all. That's half the reason it was so awesome.
