D60 carrier install question?
i have a welded rear open carrier, if i'm replacing it with another open carrier with a lunchbox locker. Can i just pull the welded carrier out, swap the barrings and ring gear to the new carrier and put it back in without doing all the shimming and pattern checking?

yes and no.
you dont need to run paint but you absolutely need to match the back lash that it had before.

Backlash needs to be exactly the same, and it's going to change with a different carrier. On the 60 are the carrier shims between the bearings and carrier? If so that's going to be a really goddamn hard task without a yukon type bearing puller.
