Newb...sort of.

Been lurking in the shadows here for several years gathering ideas on exactly what I wanted to build as an all around family hauler. I've flipped flopped anywhere between an LJ, WJ, XJ, 80 series land cruiser, Xterra, you name it. Think I finally decided on a WJ.
I've been pretty specific in my searches online looking for a 4.7 HO, 242 Select Trac, with all the options. The 242 is the one thing that keeps eluding me. So....I figured if I can find one the way I want, I can swap out the Quadratrac for the Selectrac.
I'm not planning on crawling due to the fact I live in west texas. FLAT!!! But I do want the ability to travel somewhere, off the beaten path, that has better scenery and possibly tow the Teryx 4 or jet ski's without wheezing over a hill.
My Dodge is getting pretty worn out due to the fact I run up and down oil field lease roads every day. I can't really trust it to keep on going even after having over 200K and never having been into the motor, tranny, or diffs other than for OCD-ish fluid changes.
Hope to see some good advice for my future purchase!!

Been a member for long time

Hey all. I have been a member for a long time without any posts. I have enjoyed the wealth of info that Pirate is, and now I can finally contribute with a small build of my own.

In 2007 I got rid of my second mildly built XJ and picked up a 2000 TJ Sport with 33" MTZs, 1" BL, 2" BB, and RE shocks. I wheeled it really hard until last November when I finally "broke" the D35. Even though it had open diffs and only a 2" puck lift, it worked surprisingly well, but I must say I glad the D35 finally gave up because while I can afford a build, I am cheap and now I have an excuse to spend the money.

It is good to finally have something share on this board(I will still have questions too.)

Lightbulb

I've wasted hours, probably days, looking at other peoples projects on here. Looking for ideas and how to's. Got a lot but nobody has all the answers. Never really posted much but now I've finally started my own build. Just your average yj with Tons on a budget. Kinda wanted to be able to get input and junk. Maybe I'll figure out how to post pictures by 2015.

Figured I'd say Hey to Pirate finally.

Been lurking for 5+ years, just felt like joining.

Names Patrick, and while I'm very much a newbie to the Pirate world, been around Jeeps for quite a long time. I'm a moderator over on CherokeeForum, and am on my 11th Jeep personally. I'm part owner of a shop I started with a longtime friend, Karnage Motorsports, out of Miami FL.

I partake more in XJ & ZJ, but pretty much dig anything cool & different.

Just wanted to get my first post out of the way.

I bought my first Jeep(a 1975 CJ5/304) when I was 18, also owned a '79 CJ5/SBC 355... I've spent the last 20 years building dirt track race cars so the Jeep bug had to lie dormaint for a while... Well I'm back... Bought an '83 CJ7 last month and I don't have a clue how this build will go. I do know that when I build something I usually go all in!!!! I hope to bring the attention to detail that has made the dirt cars I've built over the years into champions to my new-old "hobby"!!!

Hey all, been out of wheeling for the last 10 years. Grew up in the sierras and managed the Dusy Ershim trail, Swamp lake, Red lake and Coyote lake for the US Forest Service before I moved to my current job in Monterey.

Just picked up a 2005 Unlimited Rubicon and going to install a 3/4 link suspension under her with ORI struts and 35's !

Hi. Bought my first Jeep in 92 (86 CJ-7). Rebuilt the engine myself, installed a rebuilt T5, and a new Dana 300. Been a Jeep owner/lover ever since. I've also had a '79 Bronco, '76 Blazer, and a '69 Land Rover Series 2A.. and a bunch of hot rods. I've got a TRD Off Road Tacoma as my daily driver now, but just got my hands on an 04 TJ with the 4.0 & NV3550 and 52K miles. It's bone stock, but thought I'd throw a few pics up here & there as I start the build over the course of this summer. I do all my own work, I don't really need any help with anything, so there won't be any stupid questions. Just thought I'd be neighborly, and say hello.

Hey. Sick of same old crap at CF. Have a 90 xj with a bastard lift, rotting floors, shitty spray bomb paint, and junk bfg's. I know what fawkin tires fit on my xj, and I know how to use the fawkin search function.
That is all.

Angry bashing my head against a wall

I am completely new to posting on Forums and all that stuff, but am giving it a shot because i'm in dire need of help.
I have a 84 Cj7 that has a 4.2 in it and used to have a T-5 trans that gave up the ghost. I obtained a AW4 at a reasonable price and thought the swap would be easy because they supposedly bolt right together. Well, I had no flexplate, so I purchased the one that goes on my engine and had to drill holes so it would match the torque converter bolts. I bought a clocking ring so I can keep my D300 transfer case, and had the rear drive shaft shortened and the front one made longer to compensate for the difference in the drivetrain legnth. I installed a trans cooler and have the schematic for the relays to control the shifts and TC lockup. The PROBLEM is that it all went together fine, but wont freakin move AT ALL. It's like in just stays in neutral. Could it be because I haven't powered any of the solenoids (not made the relays yet) or could it be that my flexplate has pulled the TQ too far forward and is no longer turning the pump? I am all out of ideas and have been fighting off the urge to put a shop towel in the tank and light it! I love/hate this jeep. Can someone please help me. My phone number is 731 441-0491 .

Hello all. Just bought another project.

2005 TJ Unlimited (LJ) Rubicon

Original owner had a carbed 350v8 installed when the 4.0 failed due to oil pump problems the 05-06 Jeep 4.0L.

This thing needs plenty of love to make everything right but I love a challenge.

Thinking about changing the carb to a propane set up.

Needs exhaust work. Front drive shaft hitting the current exhaust. Lockers need rewired, No gauges working.
