'87 YJ T-case other than 231?
I have a buddy that is working on a SYE kit in an '87 YJ 4.2L and it's not the right kit, Or not the right t-case. The kit was ordered for a 231 which a far as I know is the only case they put in them. My buddy says the case says 205 right on it.
I though this might be an uncommon first year YJ thing or something. I have not looked at it personally but from the info I have we have no reason to believe it's not a stock case. Anybody? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for taking the time DesertCJ and YME thanks for the link. I bet that's it -207. I'll drive over there Thur. and check it out personally then probably start looking for a 231 for this guy.
Sorry this wasn't hardcore enough for some.

Definately the NP-207...FYI you can do a direct NP-231 swap as long as you have the correct 21/23 spline input-they are 100% interchangeable as a whole unit but NOT piece parts. Meaning-you can NOT swap a 207 input with a 231 input shaft, but the 21 and 23 input shafts are interchangeable within the specific Transfer cases themsleves in about 15 minutes.

Its a 207. That t-case and the 6 cyl. manual tranny from the same time, the Peugeot BA10/5 are junk. Late 89 was when they started using the NP231 and AX15, for the 6cyl manual, in the YJ.
If your buddy's YJ is a manual he might want to look for an AX15 as well. The BA10/5 isnt going to last long. Plus with a newer AX-15 he can get an external slave cylinder. That way you dont have to pull the tranny to change the slave, the BA10/5 and older AX-15's have an internal slave cylinder/throw out bearing assembly. The internal slave/throwout assembly is also a lot more $ to replace than the external unit. HTH As far as him having more posts and been here longer... This was origionaly posted in the "hardcore" forum. And "I" dont decide whats Hardcore. It was moved wasnt it? ![]() Everything in its place.
