sheared pinion bolts 2 Xs

Gentlemen (and Ladies):
Mine is a 94 GraChee V-8 all wheel drive. @ 155k miles the front ring gear bolts began shearing off one by one over a 3 weeks period. Caught it before the last couple went. No damage to the gears. BTW gear oil @ proper level.
Replaced bearings, properly torqued the new Dealer bolts and went on. Approx one year later, the process began again. My friend @ dismantler yard says its common and they sell the crap out of the fronts @ $$$. Must be something other than the bolts. Its an everyday driver, around town. I love the truck, its paid for. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

jk

Did you use thread locker on the bolts when you put the new ones on?

As far as I know, if they are torqued and you are using thread locker then might be the holes in the carrier are messed up somehow.

BTW, nothing Hardcore about this, move it to Jeep Newbie or Newbie General.

I have seen this once before, but it was in a rear 44. The carrier was machined wrong, and the ring gear was not sitting flush.

Usually its from used bolts, cheap bolts, and mostly installation error.

BTW, this is definatly something for one of the newbie forums

Skunkworks fab built a rear 44 for a friend of mine and the ring gear bolts started coming out a few months or so after they built it. replaced the 2 bolts that came out, and it happend again a few hundred miles later, different bolts... Ruined the ring gear... Replaced the ring and pinion, and never had another problem again. Pretty sure it was installer error. Use red locktite

When installing new ring gear bolts, red loctite them, and torque them in a star pattern, a little bit at a time.
