Ticking valve on 1984 258 - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

To find out which valve is ticking I want to run only the exhaust valve and then only the intake valve to determine which one is ticking, will that be ok or will I have some kind of pressure buildup issues? I previously took both rockers and pushrods off the #4 cylinder and the ticking stopped so I know its that cylinder. I also took the rockers from the #3 cylinder and put them on #4 and it was still ticking so I know its not the pushrods or rockers.
I pulled the head earlier and found that the #3 exhaust valve was sticking slightly so that was fixed. It all started with a broken pushrod on the #3 intake valve.
