MJ rear lift

I have a 1990 MJ, D35 rear. I need to lift the rear 2-3" without going springover (not legal here) and I am going to swap in the main leaf from a s-10 (with the eyes cut off) as a add-a-leaf.

The question I have is how important are the plastic spacers between the leaves?

Also, should I keep the spring clamps?

Keeping atleast 1 clamp is a good idea, it keeps the leafs from 'fanning out'.

If it's the type of the clamp with the bolt through the top of an open U, taking out the bolt free's up some travel, but still limits fanning.

Those spring inserts reduce friction between the leaves, so leave them in where you can.
When you cut the eyes off the S-10 leaf, atleast debur, and taper the cut off end.
Tapering the sides a little will help some too, but it's not as importaint as cleaning up the end.

Not being able to spring-over an MJ really limits you.
Guess I won't be moving to Maine anytime soon.

Yeah, Maine sucks.

No spring over
No blocks
No extended shackles
No coil spacers
If you do lift, it HAS to be a bought lift, no home made stuff.
If you have ABS, no change in tire size
If you dont have ABS, you can go two sizes.
