Bar that is, or stinger or whatever you call it, the extended bar on the front bumper to keep you from endoing strait over, and attempt to keep your hood outa the rocks when ya roll.

Started on building one after work today and wondered just how high to make it. Started out by matching my approach angle (69 degrees, damn shackles) and then took a line from the top of the cage to the top of the boner bar leaving about 7" clearance at the top of the hood. Holding it up in place I can see the whole bend at the top of the hood line from the drivers seat, from the side to top of the hoop looks pretty level with the front edge of the hood.

So, for those of you with boner bars that have actually rolled, is 7" or so enough clearance to kinda sorta protect the hood? Dont want some usless crap hanging off the front of my heep, at the same time I dont want some fawking radio tower out there either.

mine is 36 inches long and it has kept me from endoing before... you still flop, but over on your side rather than on your roof

Thanks for the input. Just went and measured the tube I bent yesterday, measuring the leg to top of bend is 31", from center of both legs to top of bend is 29". Not too obtrusive, but should work I think.
