Removing TC Drop
I'm looking to remove my TC drop since I now have a SYE. THe shop that installed the SYE would not remove the TC drop for some reason.
Anyways, as I am a Jeep newbie and I want to learn how to do things myself, could someone please let me know the procedure; I know I need a jack, but do I have to disco the driveshaft? Anyone know what size the stock bolts are so I can buy some? Any other tips or tricks I should know? Thanks in advance. |

The bolts are 1/2-13 probably 1-1.25 long
Put a floor jack under the belly pan Loosen all 6 bolts, remove one side(3 bolts) lower jack enough to get out spacer jack back up & put in shorter bolts Repeat for other side tighten all bolts and check angle & clearance of front & rear Dshafts Shouldn't take any longer than 20 minutes

Did the TC drop hardware come with a lift kit?
Probably so ... Why? Because you've changed your drive shaft angle and the drop is to prevent U-Joint vibrations and binding. Solution ... a drive shaft witha CV style U-Joint on the TC side. Added "issue" ... you will probably need to rotate your rear end pinion angle to point to (just under) the new CV yoke where-as a conventional U-Joint setup needs the yokes to point parallel with each other. Check out the tech sections of some of the major driveshaft manufacturers. They usually have show-and-tell discriptions and diagrams on proper drive shaft geometry. If the spacers are plastic then it should be a quick job.
If they are aluminum, you might be in for a fight if the spacers have corroded onto the bolts. I've had this happen, and it's no fun. One broke free with liberal amounts of heat, the other was removed with a sawzall. I've seen some get lucky with lack of vibes and no pinion adjustments, but others have required adjustable control arms to cure.
