lookin' to the future

Which would you recomend. As it stands right now, I'm not looking to do hardcore rock crawling, but that could all change so I want to be prepared for the future. What should I be looking at and why?

I have the same issue of what to run, I just figure that I will run D60 to be on the safe side!

If you have the money, go D60. You'll just kick yourself later for not doing it.

I voted 'other'. You already have a geared and locked front 44, with 33" tires. A D60 or 609 is overkill for that, even with a V8. A 35 spline D44 is a waste.

If your going to stick to smallerish tires, keep what you have, or upgrade the shafts. If you plan on significantly larger tires, go 609

throw some alloy shafts and aftermarket U-joints in the front and I wouldnt fear running it with 37's, expecially if your not into serious rock crawling.

Why is the 35 spline D44 a waste if the only 44 size components would be the diff and gears? Not criticizing, just want to be educated.

Only 12 votes? Also when my 33's wear out I'll be looking at 35's unless I get swayed to go bigger.

there is no such thing as overkill. I would look at a d60 for the rear and sell/trade + $$$ your d44 for a front d60, atleast do a d44 up front.

In order to use 35 spline shafts in the 44, you would have to get D60 outers. If your going to do that either run the 60 or a 609

I think bowtie_micky is the one with the boggled mind

Im going to say its going to come down to your pocket book. If you are looking into the future (what ever that may have in store for you)? You will want to buy the best yo can afford at the time. If what you can afford is not what you want then save some more. If you make sure you but a quality part and dont do any Booty fab then it should do you well, what ever you choose.

I have a Chevy 60 front end and it came with 35 outers and I have been very happy. I have a good buddy that has a Waggy 44 and at times I know he wishs he would have went with a 60 but it is reliable and he still hangs with the best of them.

If I had the money Id go D60's. I wish I never spent the money on my 44\30. If I only knew then what I knew now, It just makes me sick.

I would go D60 78-79 Ford F250 have D60's that supposedly pop right into a YJ. You could spend money on alloy parts for your D44, or put a stock D60 in their. According to the articles I read about the 35 spline D44 stuff its making your D44 as strong as a 60.

Personally (if that is really the case, I would have to look into it more before making my final decision) I would rather throw the money into a stock D60, and in the future put money into strengthening the D60.

No not as strong as a 60, you can ask my buddy that breaks d44 ring/pinions with just a 4.56 gear.

My 60 has 4.88 and are not as week as the d44.

although 35 spline upgrade is just that a good upgrade for the weeker axel.
