Solid axle mounting Q's
I posted this in the chevy section but just got crap for my axle choice and not much help on actually locating the axle. I figured since the axle is a jeep one you guys may be more willing to help.
I don't know much about 4x4s. Just learned a little from friends (buddy did a SAS on his 94 nissan pathfinder and another buddy has a lifted 86 cherokee that he swapped a tpi 350 in.). I'm more of a autocross/firebird guy. Anyways! I just picked up an 89 s10 blazer that a guy had started a SAS on. I realize it's a bad idea to pick up a half finished project but it was cheap as hell and came with everything to put it back together. The axle the guy chose was a d30 from an 89 cherokee. So it's coil. And weak. I don't plan on any hardcore wheeling immediately so I just want to get it driving and then see what happens. The guy took the stock control arms, boxed and welded the endlinks to some 2" tubing to make two long arms to locate near the xfer case. On to my major concern. How should I go about locating the axle to mark spring perch location, trackbar mount location on the frame as well as the longarm mounts? Is it anymore complicated than just jacking the truck up, connect up the arms and roll it under the frame to start marking?

Right. Which would be awesome if the swap hadn't been started yet but the links are welded up and just need to be cut to length and tapped for the mounting bushings. The springs and spring pockets are already pulled off the donor and the axle has mounts already for everything. It'd be more work for me to do leaves at this point.
But I appreciate your input.
