ecu... 97 tj engine in a 95 yj

I might buy a friend's 95 yj... he threw a rod in it last year, so I helped him put in a 97 tj 2.5l engine to replace the old yj 2.5l. If it buy it, it will need a new ECU because it went out. Should I buy a YJ ecu or a TJ ecu?

It will depend on how you did the swap was done, so I'd ask him if he kept the YJ ECU or swapped in the TJ ECU.

He kept the YJ ecu. Upon completion of the swap, then engine ran REALLY rich for 6 months until the jeep stopped working.

I would run the ecu that comes with the motor. 97 with 97 - 95 with 95. Running the other ecu might be why it ran rich and died. I don't think you ever what to mix ecu's with different motors. I'm sure some have done it with out problems though.
