does anyone know if an 88 MJ uses the same 5spd tranny for the 4 and 6 cyl? i got my hands on a freebie 88 5spd 4 cyl MJ and want to use it for parts for my 6 cyl MJ. first the axles are goin in for the lower gearing. are the peguot trannys all the same? is the tcase geared lower as well?

Trannies are not the same. You should have an AX-5, I-6 trans is a BA/10. I THINK the t-case gearing is similar.

so i cant take a tranny out of an 88 4 cyl and bolt it up to a 6 cyl of the same year? their not the same?

No. The 4-cyl trans is also not strong enough to be reliable behind the I6.
