Ok I have obtained a front D44 for my YJ, I need to change out the gears from 3.54s to 4.56s someone mentioned to me that I may need to change the carrier, could the knowledgable ppl of PBB please chime in on this?

Yes you will need to change your carrier. I believe the carrier break is around 3.92. I'm guessing you are just looking for an open carrier. You can find em pretty cheap from 4wp.

would I need a new carrier if I were to just put in a locker (not the lunchbox style).

If you are adding a locker (i.e. detroit locker, ARB) then that is the carrier. You will need to note splines and gear ratio when ordering.

yup, just pull the old gears and carrier out, throw the detroit and new gears in - and then you wouldnt have to buy a new carrier...

bolt in and go!
