5.2 V8 in a YJ, anyone have results?
OK so I am thinking of swapping in a 5.2 into my YJ, I started with a 4 banger but swapped in an ax-15 in behind it in prep for my swap (thanks YJ4ROX for the write up). I hadn't decided whether to stroke a 4.0 or to do the V8, but after a search here I see the swap is just as hard either way so screw the extra effort of the rebuild and I'll just find a wrecked Grand Cherokee pre 1996 and drop it in.
And I understand if I get a bellhousing from a 3.9 dodge dakota it should bolt staight up, then I just have to pick up a normal ram truck clutch and the wiring would be just about the same as wiring in a 4.0 anyway (going to look for an OBD I engine so I don't have to get into the dash wiring). Then the motor mounts looked really easy and I already put in a BE-COOL radiator for cooling. My question is has anyone here done this swap and what kinda results have you had? Maybe someone do a whole write up of it. I plan to replace the rearend with an 8.8 first but leave the dana 30, cuz I'm not a lead foot and I intend on keeping my 33's. I might eventually go 35's but I doubt it. So has anyone done the 5.2 and if so similar drivetrain? I wanted to go with the 5.2 over some other v8's like a chev 5.7 or ford 5.0 because it's more of a truck motor as apposed to a hot rod, and because of the simplicity of the swap. But I would like to here of some success/failures first. some things too look out for, suggestions etc. Before i rip it apart. This YJ is my daily driver so I don't want it out of commision for weeks on end trying to work out the details. Last edited by RNandKT; 11-19-2005 at 06:38 PM. |
