Send a message via ICQ to Murfman Send a message via Yahoo to Murfman
You can look at the back of your xfer case and find the data plate on it. It will ID it for you.

Just make sure the person selling the np231 knows what they have.
The plate on the back might say 231, but it doesn't mean it will work with your vehicle. I haven't found a web site that de-codes the plate. The input spline count might be different, 21, 23, 27. You need to know yours so, you know what to look for.

The only input splines on the NP 231 are 21 and 23. 21 splines came with ALL 4 bangers and the 4.2Ls and the 23 splines are on ALL 4.0L.

Some people sell chevy 27 spline np231's, as just a np231.

That's why I posted that you need to know what the seller has, and what you need.

Just research different engine /tranny combos and you can find what you need.

'87-'89(?) Wranglers and Cherokees with straight six engines and 5spds are 21spline inputs to the transfer case. The Peugeot was the trans used in those models, and had a 21 spline output shaft. Not sure of last model year used.

Chrysler dropped the BA5-10 (Peugeot) in favor of the AX15. The AX15 has a 23 tooth output shaft.

you have to watch input lengths also. Cherokee and ones from behind an ax 15 have short inputs. Th autos in wranglers have long inputs. If you use a short input in an auto it will leak like a sive out of the weep hole. Been there done that. Tera makes a bad ass seal extender that works great.
