Front dana 60; Ford or Chevy?

Seems like the Chevy dana 60 is more desirable but why? They often go for twice as much as a Ford dana 60 front. Im going 1 ton on my cj5. I have a sterling 10.25 and now im looking for a front. At this point, it can be passenger or drivers side drop. I have no preference. Anybody know the difference in the two?

i would say that you dont have a choice

seeing how the ford front pumpkin is driver side and i believe your cj requires an axle with the pumpkin on the passenger side. thats if you plan on using the same t case.

dodge Passenger drop if you plan on using stock TCase, chevys shouldnt be that much more expensive, probably looking at flat top knucles or kingpins, but both are driver side drops

Im not using the dana 20.
The game plan is auto trans, 1 tons, rear link. Do others agree the chevy knuckles are stronger?

Chevy, those 60's come with kingpins rather than the balljoints that Ford 60's come with (which makes them both stronger, and more desirable)

The 78-79 Ford 60s have high pinion, they are also kingpins. U can find them on ebay they sell for around $1000. I was lucky to get one completed in good shape for $580

Chevy knuckles do have a bit more material on them and use a six bolt pattern for the spindle vice the 5 bolt that the Ford uses, I don't know that the difference in strength stock to stock is much though. You can weld in some gussets and plating to beef either of them up considerably. You can also use chevy/dodge outter knuckles on a ford housing, this will allow you to use the Dana 70 outter 35 spline shaft which is about the cheapest 35 spline outter setup. The ford housing is high pinion which offers some additional clearance and the gears are reverse cut so they are a bit stronger than the chevy/dodge counterparts.

best way in front is high pinion ford center with chev/dodge knuckles and 35 spline outers. Read the bible.

My first statement would have been read the bible.

My second statement would be ditch the boat anchor 10.25. Its Fugly, go 14 bolt or D60 rear.

who cares???
I already have the axle, its not that ugly IMO and has better ground clearance than a 14 bolt. Its stronger than a 60 so why would I ditch it?

I have a 10.25 in my yj. weld it and get a diff. cover for it, they are paper thin. can't beat factory 35 spline. you will be happy with it.
