stereo issues

i was replacing the stereo in my 87 yj and i had to rewire the harness to fit, but now when i plug it in, i get nothing... no power or anything. i checked and replaced all the fuses and it still isn't working. i have a red and a black wire going to one in-line fuse box and a yellow wire going to another one. any help would be appreciated...

i would make the ground wire(black) its own grounding point.

The yellow wire is your constant power that keeps your clock and presets from changing. the red wire is your switched power so when u turn on you ignition the stereo comes on. The black wire is the ground and should be attatched to something metal in your car like a screw that touches the body or frame.

okay, well should the black and red be going into the same in-line fuse? or should i just put the black straight from the back of the stereo to a gound?

put the black straight to a ground...you could test it by cutting the wire and touching it to a part of the frame/body/ or something metal like said above. Good luck

edit:
Or if you're really unsure where to find a ground, get a jumper cable and run it from your negative(-) terminal to your black wire from your radio...can't go wrong w/ that one

If you know someone who has a chilton's manual, it should have a wiring diagram for your radio, mine did.

get yourself a meter, and a AA battery and you're set. no need for jumper cables. You DO need the FLUKE digital multimeter though. You can't install stereos without it. these guys are crazy with their jumper cable hook up. WAAAAAY TOO CHEAP. when you get the AA battery, make sure you get the most expensive one, cause those speakers are known to be real boogers. and for sphincter wire, you need the super duper triple plated gold chromium oxidious reach arounders. they should go for a couple hundo

i love sarcasm

dude, shut the fuck up. you know it works.

ok, shit face 1amradio. with your username being something radio, why in the fuck don't you already know?

and gayred YJ if you know any sort of shit, you should know you can figure polarity of the speakers with a AA battery, and some sphincter wire attached to both poles of the AA battery.

the meter, (you stupid fuck) will tell you power or not. AND ground continuity.

ps. shut your cockhoslter, stupid f'n newb

edit: the ambiguous reference to the super expensive fluke multi meter was just following suit to the board. why go with a test light that obviously works, when you need the most expensive one out?

i hope you die

Damn, someone didn't get their daily allotment of butt secks
You're telling him shit that he doesn't even need to do. He didn't say he had anything wrong with the polarity of his speakers....(I'll say it slowly) H i s r a d i o d o e s n ' t w o r k. He asked the board how to make sure he had the right wire to ground, and I told him a simple way to make sure it was grounded to a sufficient source. Just check that you have the right wire, and then find a good place to ground it. Don't complicate such a simple task.
and the gayred thing really hurt

well i'm sure if he can't even figger out how to get power to the head unit, he sure as hell can't figger out how to get polarity right, right?

BTW, why come to an OFFROAD site just to figure out not to hook up red and black?

you are an idiot, and need to lurk more, post less.

and you're right, i didn't get my daily allotment of buttsecks, ask your sister. she's not ripped from asshole to elbow today, yet... is she? if so, i'll call off the minions

WOW... So this is the flame-free newbie section.

Y'all need to hit the Zuk boards and really learn how to flame someone for stupid questions.
