offset springs for greater wheelbase -help-

i have a 94 yj with a rustys sua 4" lift, and im looking to get a bit more wheelbase out of it. i have heard of the rancho 44044 springs being offset to move an axle outward, but they are only 2 or 2.5 inches lifted. i would like to move my front axle forward, but i need to stay with the 4" lift.

in the rear, im curious is it easier to just move the leaf pack back on the frame and hang a shackle from the rear bumper, or can someone point me to a spring like the 44044 that will provide me with 4-4.5" of lift, move my rear axle back, and still offer me good flex.

in moving the front axle forward, will i have to address the steering at all? or will the relationship between the tie rod and drag link still be ok, i figure i coud swap the drag link from the front to the rear of the tie rod, possibly ream and flip the tie rod to gain extra clearance, and keep the drag link behind it. will the slight angle be a problem?

in the rear, i am currently looking for a fuel cell to remedy the gas tank hogging all the room under there. once that is done, i have a ford 9" ready to go in with a lock right and 4.86 gears, and feel the need to move it rearward. but again not sure which is the best route.

if anyone can recomend a way to move my axles away from each other, what parts to use, and any issues youve had with it, id love to see what worked for others

I'm not sure if the YJ steering box is the same as a TJ's steering box, but the box out of an astro Van bolts up to the same location but puts the pitman arm forward of the box, giving you 8" of forward travel available in the axle until you reach stock geometry. I'm sure you can work with 4" of axle stretch and use that box.

Why don't you get the rancho springs and add-a-leafs? Will that work? I'm not familiar with leaf springs too much. I know that FJ40 springs are offset, but as for the measurements I'm unsure. FJ60?

ive heard that the 44044's are real stiff, meant for a wagoneer with a v-8 right, putting an aal in will kill me, as if a yj isnt stiff enough right...keep the info flowing

I hear that Solid Axle toy springs will work with a YJ and stretch the front around 6"...right around the point that the Astro steering box will be right up your alley. figure out the right bushings and they'll mount up to the stock shackles/hangers. This may quickly qualify for hardcore tech..so you can probably post it in there so you get more of the serious answers from the people who don't bother with the newbie section.

If you do use the Astro gear box-replace the pitman arm with an aftermarket one-like a Moog. These pitman arms and idler arms are notoriously "spongy" from the factory to cure bump steer in the Astro van, and S-10 Blazer type applications.

i wasnt sure about posting this one in the hardcore section, but if you say so...also, the front toy springs, you talking rears up front style, or just fronts or lifted rears or what? my brother is the president of ttora ne, and he has done the rears up front on his 1st gen 4r, it got me thinking if that would be suffice for my jeep and it flexes real good, but he is also spring over...slapahoe...im goping to post this on the hardcore section so check it out...keep the info coming.

I ran 4" wagoneer front springs all around on my YJ for a while (BDS front, Superlift rear). 2" extra wb at each end. The stock steering worked ok and didn't really rub on the tie-rod (running a waggy 44). The lift w/ the 4" wagoneer springs was about the same as the 4" YJ springs that came w/ the Jeep. I ended up only using the waggy main leaf and the reast from my YJ lift packs. The springs were just too heavy with the full wagoneer pack.

the 44044 are a 2.5" lift for the waggys, they are equal to ~4" on a YJ. I bet you will be damn close to what you are now by using the 44044.

44044's are a 2" front waggy lift spring .... should net 4" lift. I have them on all 4 corners but I'm not finished so I can't give you my net lift... also SOA with one tons.

I run 44044's SOA on the YJ, definitely not too stiff, work very well. Running 40" MTR's full width.
