CJ Spring Conversion Kit
Hi. New guy here. I have an 81 CJ8 that is my first project.
I ran across this in a 4WheelDrive parts catalog and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. It is a CJ spring conversion kit to YJ springs. Here is the link: http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Parts-Tops-a...ART4WD683.aspx, (part number 4wd683). Is it worth it, or just run with the stock setup. Thank you for your help, Pete |

I wouldnt swap stock YJ springs on my CJ just for the heck of it. If I was lifting it, I would use the wider YJ springs (up front, CJ/YJ are the same on the rear). Many lift kits give you the option of upgrading from 2" CJ springs to 2.5" YJ in the front.

Wow. $350 for ubolts, bushings, rear hangers, and spring plates? Um... no.
Rubicon Express, IIRC, sells a conversion shackle for the front, maybe $60 there... the rear is more or less bolt-in. U-bolts, bushings, and the like can be gotten on the cheap from someplace like www.espo.com ... for 8 ubolts, 8 bushings, and 8 bolts, $5 each being on the high-high side, I'd say $220 would be the upper end of how much that setup should cost.

Thanks for the info about the conversion shackles. The reason I asked about this conversion kit is because I want to build a good handling off road and on road Jeep.
I plan on building this Scrambler with either a Chevy 4.3 V6 or the 5.3 V8, with a 4 inch lift. Like most people here, I want to build it right the first time. My current off roading is here in Florida with plans of moving to Central or Eastern Tennessee to buy a farm in the next few years. I talked to a local salvage yard and I can get the 5.3 engine, transmission, computer, wire harness and etc for $1800 and the 4.3 stuff for about $1500. Here’s a handy link to salvage yards that you all may find helpful, http://car-part.com/. Thank you for your help. Pete |

do it right the first time and go with the 5.3 over the 4.3. Once add larger tires and adding on more accessories (read weight), you'll be glad you did the V8 instead of wasting your time on the V6...
