Racing steering wheel in TJ?
Does anyone know what would be involved in installing a steering wheel like this in a 98 TJ? My old steering wheel on my beater is really worn and I would like to replace it with something like this. I don't need the stupid airbag so I thought I would get the huge wheel out of the way. If someone could point my in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks. As far as the cruise control is involved, I don't have it on my 98 but I'm sure with some ingenuity you could rewire the cruise control to some dash switches or something.

I did it on my 97 TJ.
Undo the battery for a couple minutes to let the airbag deactivate. Undo bolts on backside of steering wheel and take off the cover then the airbag, disconnect plugs (I took out fuses too) Use a puller to take off the old stock wheel The nut that hold the steering wheel on I reused and ground to fit the ID of the new splined quick release coupler I got from summit (not necessary, can just weld coupler to stock column) weld splined coupler on to stock column grind flush and smooth and Bang, thats it! I used a grant steering wheel and had to widen the holes on the coupler just a little to make fit. Took about couple hours, but turned out nice. Makes getting in and out easier with my PRP's Justin

Thanks grn97TJ, that is what I really wanted, a quick release wheel.
Snow you son of a bitch, how dare you steal my thread.......is this you? ![]() JKYeah, I took these pics at the 4x4 Expo in Houston. The jeep actually belongs to Bob Heath of St. Francisville, Louisiana I believe. He is a entry in the 2007 TTC. The jeep has also been featured in a few mags. It was rolling on some 47 inch LTBs and is a bad ass mutha. Here you go. Right click and save cause I will probably delete them soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was also cheesing over BTF's TJ. ![]() And their buggy on portals.
