AMC 360 Carb
Anyone have any suggestions as to what is a good off road 4 barrel carburetor for a AMC 360. Thanks

I have a 360 also, installed an Edelbrock AVS 650 cfm with off road kit and after adjusting the floats it runs alright. Lets not kid ourselves its not fuel injection but it does alright for 90% of the time.

X 3 (I've got 2 of the same). Gotta do the off-road kit & play with the floats. I'd say runs great 98% of the time. Doesn't like downhill with your ass threatening to go over ya.

Thanks I think I'll go with an Edelbrock. What does the off road kit consist of?

I've been running a Quadrajet on my 401 and this thing is awesome on angles. Approach, departure, it doesnt matter...that, and it will damn near run sideways.
Keep in mind, a shitty Qjet is about as valuable as a doorstop, a good one however, that's been gone through thoroughly, is well worth it's weight.

Motorcraft 2100 or 2150.
probably the best carburetor for offroading.

I've got one on mine. It's no race car, but I was able to pass people whenever I needed to running 3.31 gears and 35's.

I don't run the interstate but I get enough power to wip in and out of traffic passing people on the street easy with my motorcraft. But I got a pretty much stock 304, got a 401cam in it thats supposed to help. I don't know if it does, i know its the best motor I've had so far compared to the stock 304 i had.

You asked for an "off road" carb, so I'll stay with MC 2100 recommendation due to it's ease to work on & it's reliability. **************************************** Obivously a four barrel would have better "top end" preformance on the freeway. Note: ford checks cfm at top of carb, while Weber & others at the throudle plates, so these numbers are suspect for comparisions. 2bbl Progressive 32/36 DGEV Weber = 300 CFM 2bbl Synchronous 38 DEGS Weber = 400 CFM MC 2100 1.08 = 287 MC 2100 1.14 = 300 MC 2100 1.21 = 351 (Cubic In. Displacement/2)X(Maximum RPM/1728)= Maximum CFM this assumes you want to run at max RPM to get that last MPH & HP, nothing you would want to do except on the track. (360/2)X (5000/1728)= (180) X (2.89) = 520 ******************************************* From another form: Try it, you'll like it! I put a 350 CFM 2150 on the 360 in my old '69 F-100 and it runs great. I set it up at home (4,800 Ft.) and run it down to the Sacramento Valley and up to 9,000 feet without a sputter. I'd put a 2150 on my Jeepster but I can' find a 240 CFM Here's a breakdown of the 2100/2150 flowrates . . . 0.98 - 190 CFM 1.01 - 240 CFM 1.02 - 245 CFM 1.08 - 290 CFM 1.14 - 300 CFM 1.21 - 350 CFM 1.23 - 355 CFM 1.33 - 425 CFM Rockcrusher Home of the Postal Jeepster www.rockcrusher4x4.com ***************************************** some more MC 2100 info: MC2100s like 4 to 5 PSI, no more and no less. The MC2100 is unique in that it will operate with the top removed. The 1.14 could be found on the ford 351W and the 1.21 from the ford 351C all of the way up to the 390 CID V-8. ********************************************* The Ford/Autolite 2100 was first introduced in 1957 and was installed on applications till 1974, In 1975 it was revised to become the 2150 and were phased out in the mid 80's. The number on the side in the circle is the venturi size, Ford made 8 differing venturi sizes of the 2100/2150 depending upon the applications used. Since this was the ONLY FORD two barrel carburetor used from 1957-the early 70's Ford installed it on MANY differing applications. As you have noted even AMC bought this carb from ford for its applications. The venturi sizes ranged from .98, 1.01, 1.02, 1.08, 1.14, 1.21, 1.23, and the hard to find 1.33 The 2100 is very easy to tell apart from the 2150 as the 2150 is labeled Motorcraft on the carb top and has a choke vacuum break extending from the rear of the carburetor. You can also tell the later 2100's (70's versions) by the "raised" float bowl section and the choke unloader located just aft of the choke flap. (sometimes not used in the earlier 70's models). OF course all 2100/2150's will have the part numbers stamped on the drivers side front foot which will tell the applications and year of manufacturer. The earlier 2100's are probably more desirable as they’re are simpler carbs and were not tuned with economy in mind as are the later ones. Consequently the later ones tend to run a bit leaner and are often more temperamental, plus often have extra vacuum accessories. The 2100/2150 carburetor has been reputed to be the BEST CARBURETOR series ever built. The 2100's are basically two barrel versions of the famed 4100 4 barrel carburetor and many parts are compatible. Any other questions about 2100/2150's feel free to write me Bill White ************************************* Good luck White Automotive

I also DITTO that. I ran the same motocraft on my 401 for 10 years in a 79 cj-7. Like others have mentioned, not a race car but the best alternative to EFI as far as I am concerned! Good luck!

i say use a qjet. a well tuned qjet will out perform any other carb off road. they will work better than other carbs with all the offroad extras you can afford. i have one on my 360 and it works great.
