I'm in the process of changing the rear main seal on my junk. Its a 79 cj5 with a 258 3 spd manual.CJim7 told me told remove the motor mount bolts and jack up the motor. My question is what bolts do I take out to jack the motor? Thanks in advance. Yes I'm new here.

Ummmm, I could be wrong, since I havent changed a RMS on a CJ5, but on every other thing I've changed them on I've never removed the motor mounts to get it out.

There is one bolt that is between the oil pan and the mount.Prolly should point out the bolt is on the passenger side. There are three bolts from the mount on the topside that go into the motor. Two bolts underneath. What needs to be removed?

I think you need to loosen the mount on the passenger side. I don't remember having to remove it though, could be wrong though
Thinking about it, I think you do have to remove or loosen the passenger mount in order to get the pan off.

![]() The passengerside engine bracket interferes with the oilpan removal. It must be dealt with lest we cannot remove said oil pan to access the rear man seal.
