AMC 727 to ?
I have a 1974 IH Scout II with a 258, t18a, dana 20. The clutch is gone in the t18a so I have decided instead of replacing the clutch I will swap in an auto. A friend of mine has a 84 grand wagoneer with a 360 and auto (i believe it would be a 727). I want to swap this tranny into my scout but am not sure which tcase or cases I can use. I have read that a 300 will bolt right up to the tranny (from an 80 to 86 cj) with no adapter needed. Is this true? What other options do I have for a passenger drop tcase. I think a 208 from a 1/2 ton dodge or ramcharger would work but the have that long 9" adapter. Would I need a new output shaft for that. I know the tranny (assuming it is a 727) would have a new process bolt pattern on the back of it so why can I not bolt the tcase directly to it with out an adapter. Any help or tips is needed and appreciated. I am new to amc/dodge/international.

i am using a 360/727 from an 81 cherokee cheif and dana300 from an older CJ, bolts up with no adapter. it had a np208 on there previously. there is not much clearance for large front driveshaft. clocking ring from jb conversions would help clearance driveshaft.
